Three pipe connection methods: flange, welding and coupling

In the modern industrial field, the connection method of the pipeline system is one of the key factors to ensure the safety and efficiency of fluid transmission. Different engineering environments and application requirements have prompted the development and application of a variety of connection technologies, including flange connection, welding connection and coupling connection. Each connection method has its own unique advantages and limitations, and the correct selection and application of these technologies is critical to ensuring the reliability of the piping system.

Flange connection

Advantages of flange connections

● Easy to disassemble and assemble: The biggest advantage of flange connection is that it is easy to disassemble and maintain in the later stage. Flange connection is particularly important for dredging pipelines that need to be disassembled frequently.

● Good sealing performance: Using appropriate sealing gaskets can ensure that the flange connection has good sealing performance and avoid leakage.

Applicable scenarios:

In high-pressure environments that require high sealing and stability, flange connections can provide reliable performance, ensuring safe operation of the system under extreme conditions. In addition, the flange connection design facilitates maintenance and upgrading of the pump station, allowing the system to adapt to future technological improvements and expansion needs, thereby ensuring the long-term stable operation and efficient performance of the system.

Welding

Advantages of welding connections

● High strength: Welded connections have very strong structural strength and pressure resistance, and are suitable for pipelines that withstand high pressure for a long time.

● Excellent sealing: There is no gap in the welding part, and it has very good sealing performance.

● Improved fluidity: The inner wall of the welded pipe is smooth, which helps improve fluid flow.

Disadvantages

Difficult to maintain: Once welding is done, disassembly and repair of the pipe becomes difficult, especially in an emergency.

High construction requirements: Welding construction requires professional technology and equipment, and has high requirements for operators.

Applicable scenarios:

Welded joints have significant application advantages in unlined steel pipes and non-corrosive pipelines. In unlined steel pipes, welded joints provide a strong, seamless connection, ensuring the stability and durability of the pipeline. For pipelines handling non-corrosive water or other non-corrosive media, welded joints not only provide reliable sealing performance, but also ensure the strength and safety of the pipeline in long-term use.

Coupling connection

Advantages of coupling connections

● High flexibility: The coupling connection can cope with temperature changes and displacement of the pipeline and is suitable for dynamic working conditions.

● Quick installation: The installation of the coupling is generally simple, which reduces construction time.

Considerations:

Pressure Rating: The pressure rating of the fittings must be evaluated to ensure they can withstand the pressure requirements of the application.

Effects of Grooves: Grooves may affect pipe wall thickness or liner integrity and require special attention in design and selection of joints.

Disadvantages

The sealing performance is slightly poorer: Compared with welding and flange connections, the coupling may be slightly less sealing.

Limitations of application: Under certain working conditions, the coupling may not provide adequate support and strength.

Applicable scenarios: The coupling is particularly suitable for tailings pipelines, liner applications and occasions requiring high flexibility.
